Academic Advisor Regulation

According to the Senate Decision of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki No. 78656/23.06.2023, titled “Approval of the Regulation of Postgraduate Study Programs of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh)” (Government Gazette 4084/B-23.06.2023), the following apply:

Article 13 – Teaching Staff

At the beginning of attendance in the Postgraduate Study Program (P.S.P.), each postgraduate student is assigned a permanent faculty member of the P.M.S. as their Academic Advisor. The role of the Academic Advisor is to monitor the progress of the student’s studies, to be informed by the instructors about any ongoing absences of the students under their supervision, and to ensure that students are notified (through the Secretariat) that such absences may result in failure in the course. Additionally, the Academic Advisor provides guidance regarding the selection of the postgraduate thesis, taking into account the research interests of the student. Postgraduate students are obliged to contact their Academic Advisor for any issue that may affect the smooth progress of their studies.

The Academic Advisor provides the necessary academic counseling to help the student meet the requirements of the Postgraduate Study Program.

The Academic Advisor is required to meet at regular intervals with their assigned postgraduate students, and at least twice (2) per semester.

Their responsibilities include, among others:

  • Identifying the needs and research interests of the student, supporting their aptitudes and skills, and encouraging them to pursue fields that align with their profile.
  • Informing and facilitating communication between the student and the collective bodies of the P.M.S. as well as administrative services.
  • Assisting in drafting the student’s individual semester study plan and in determining the topic of their postgraduate thesis.
  • Identifying students with multiple outstanding courses.
  • Developing and overseeing a plan of support for such students.

The teaching staff, administrative staff, and the relevant services of the Institution collaborate with and support the Academic Advisors in their duties. They also consider the information, observations, suggestions, and requests of the Advisors regarding any deficiencies or dysfunctions that create problems for the students, as well as any proposals to address them.
